  Tour one of the oldest cranberry marshes in central Wisconsin with an actual grower. History, videos, cranberry gifts, and tours are offered Mon-Fri at 9, 11, 1 and 3 p.m. during harvest (late September thru early October) and other times by appointment. Call ahead to verify harvest and tour times. Celebrate one of North America’s native fruits at Glacial Lake Cranberries this year!

• Hardwood Bombing Range

  Hardwood Air-to-Ground Weapons Range is one of fifteen Air National Guard ranges located in the nation. The range provides training for combat aircrews by presenting realistic targets for weapons practice. Although the planes don’t drop live bombs, the experience is as noisy and as thrilling as you’d expect. Grab a picnic basket, bring your earplugs, and prepare to be thrilled by flights above and explosions below. Visitors are welcome to observe activities during operating hours.   A living historic site on the Wisconsin River, Historic Point Basse was established in 1837 when the Wakely family settled here from upstate New York. The once thriving community was central to Wisconsin’s trapping and trading history. Open only during events and by appointment.

  On top of a low hill, behind St. Philips Church, are the sprawling grounds of the Grotto Gardens and Wonder Cave. The Rudolph Grotto, started in 1920, was a fulfillment of a promise that Father Philip Wagner made to the Virgin Mary in thanks for healing from a lingering illness while studying for the priesthood. The Grotto consists of five plus acres and lush flower beds, numerous shrines, museum, and gift shop. The Grotto is set among meandering paths and crooked bridges, with shady, intimate areas for meditation as well as more formal memorials and open picnic grounds.

  Wildlife viewing, photography and hunting are popular recreational activities for visitors to the area, located in southwestern Wood County. Drive theTrumpeter Trail Auto Tour, open mid-April through October, a 14-mile, all-weather road with interpretive signs and information on wildlife and habitat management. Three observation tours, numerous hiking trails, a captive bison herd, and a primitive campground provide opportunities for visitors in the area to view and better understand our area’s wildlife.

  With numerous indoor waterparks and outdoor waterparks in the Dells area, it proclaims itself the "Waterpark Capital of the World". It is home to the largest outdoor water park in the U.S., Noah's Ark; the largest indoor waterpark resort, Wilderness Territory; and America's largest water and theme park resort, Mt. Olympus Water & Theme Park. Some other attractions in the Dells include the Dells Boat Tours, numerous golf courses, mini golf, go-kart tracks, water sports, horseback riding, Tommy Bartlett's Thrill Show, Exploratory, Ripley’s museum, Timber Falls Amusement the Ho-Chunk Casino and many other places of interest. Most attractions are located on the Strip, otherwise known as the Wisconsin Dells Parkway.

  A 300 acre environmental learning center and field station of the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point College of Natural Resources. It is located 17 miles east of Stevens Point on glacial Sunset Lake. Come and learn under the towering trees.

• George W. Mead Wildlife Area

  This wildlife area is the 3rd largest in the state and features 30,000 acres of recreational opportunities for outdoor enthusiasts. Hunters can hunt bear, deer, ducks, geese and small game. Bikers & hikers can enjoy a 6.5 mile trail May 15-September 1. Bird watching is always spectacular, 268 species of birds have been recorded here. Directions from Stevens Point take Hwy. 10 West, 1/2 mile west of the Village of Milladore; turn north on Hwy. S-6.2 miles to Mead (look for signs).

• Ice Age Trail

  A continuous 1200 mile footpath through diverse landscapes that provides outdoor recreation experiences, preserves geological features, serves as an educational resource, provides habitat for the movement of wildlife, provides health and vigor for users, and links history and cultures within Wisconsin. Portions of this trail travel through Portage County.
